Work with Object Explorer

The Object Explorer is a read-only alternative for the Dynamics NAV development environment, to be opened in the NAV-client under Departments - Compliance - Security - Authorization Management - Object Explorer.

The Object Explorer offers 'where used' functionality: No. of Linked Permission Sets (formerly user roles), No. of Secured Fields and No. of Secured Datasets linked to the object. Furthermore, the Object Explorer can count the number of records in tables and present whether the table stores data per company or for the whole database. Calculating these numbers might take some time, therefore this is optional: on the Authorization Management Setup the options might be enabled (disabled by default). The number of secured fields and secured datasets are always calculated.

Running objects

It also contains the ability to run objects (if the user account has appropriate permissions). This possible to select the specific table and press on the green “play” button.

If you ran the object, it will open the table.

Viewing linked permissions

You can view the linked permissions of an object. Select first the specifc object formt the list and click on linked Permission Sets.

The following will be a similiar result:

Viewing Secured Fields

You can view the applied/effective field security of an object. Select first the specifc object formt the list and click on Secured Fields. In this example we use table 18: customer.

Viewing Secured Tables

You can view the applied/effective dataset security of an object. Select first the specifc object formt the list and click on Secured Datasets. In this example we use table 17: General Ledger entry.
